    IIHS says federal bumper rules should apply to SUVs, pickups, vans, and cars alike


    ARLINGTON, Va. — The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has petitioned the federal government to regulate the bumpers on light trucks (SUVs, pickups, and vans) just as it regulates those on cars, and the group says the same bumper rules should apply to all kinds of passenger vehicles.

    PPG posts 42 percent sales gain


    PITTSBURGH — PPG Industries reported record sales for the second quarter of $4.5 billion, surpassing the prior year’s second quarter results by 42 percent. Second quarter reported net income was $250 million, or $1.51 per share.

    Shops warned about engine fires sparked by ethanol use



    Repairers are being urged to prepare themselves for a heightened risk of engine fires stoked by motorists filling up with ethanol-laced gasoline when their vehicle is not properly outfitted to safely burn this type of fuel.
